Frank J. Lane

  • Associate Professor of Psychology

Dr. Frank Lane joined Illinois Tech in 2006 and is currently an associate professor and core faculty member of the Division of Counseling and Rehabilitation Science. He served as past Head of the Division of Counseling and Rehabilitation Science, Associate Chair, and Chair of the Department of Psychology.  

Dr. Lane earned his Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Science with an emphasis on behavioral and emotional integration at the University of Florida. His doctoral training prepared him for interdisciplinary research; an emphasis that resonates throughout his teaching and research. Dr. Lane has 15 years of experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in rehabilitation and psychology. He has experience teaching in traditional and distance education venues utilizing Blackboard platform.

Dr. Lane is trained as a psychotherapist. He is a Certified as a Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) and Licensed as a Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Illinois. He has over 19 years of clinical and administrative experience directing programs in state-federal vocational rehabilitation, vocational work evaluation, and private-sector rehabilitation.

TEACHING

Dr. Lane teaches Introduction in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling (PSYC 410) and Psychopathology (PSYC 588). He also teaches specialized courses in Rehabilitation Engineering Technology (RET) that consist of Survey of Interdisciplinary Applications of Rehabilitation Engineering Technology (PSYC 583); Access to Independence through Assistive Technology (PSYC 584); Fieldwork in Applications of Assistive Technology (PSYC 585); and Inter-professional Project: Assistive technology for persons with disabilities (IPRO 310). Dr. Lane also supervises students who are engaged in clinical counselor practicum and internship.

SERVICE

Dr. Lane currently serves as an editorial board member for the Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin and the Australian Journal of Rehabilitation Counseling.

Dr. Lane formerly served as the President of the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association (ARCA) (2010), the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Council on Rehabilitation Education (2011-2017), and the head of the Council on Public Relations and Awareness, and Public Policy and Legislation (2006-2008) for the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association (ARCA).
