Chemistry (B.S.)/Chemistry (M.S.)
Simultaneously earn both a bachelor's and master's degree in chemistry in as few as five years.
Enhance your education and expand your career possibilities with the accelerated Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Master of Science in Chemistry. Students in the accelerated program gain a strong foundation in chemical theory and chemical experimentation. Emphasis is placed on the fundamental areas of chemistry, including analytical, inorganic, organic, physical, and biochemistry. Graduate-level coursework builds upon this education, engaging students in faculty research and pre-professional training that prepares them to become chemists who are able to think creatively and critically. Students will help faculty members find solutions to real-world problems pertaining to catalysis, pharmaceuticals, therapeutics, materials, and sustainable energy.
Program Overview
An advanced degree in chemistry expands career possibilities. This accelerated program allows students to learn the science of chemistry and gain experience working with faculty on real-world research.
Career Opportunities
This advanced degree opens the door to higher-paying jobs. You’ll gain the knowledge, skills, and experience needed for industrial careers in research and development, chemical analysis, or chemical manufacturing and marketing, or to move on to a doctoral degree program.
Example careers include:
- Analytical chemist
- Biotechnologist
- Chemical engineer
- Environmental chemist
- Forensic chemist
- Health care scientist
- Nanotechnologist
- Pharmacologist
- Research scientist
This program allows students to register for up to three courses (nine credit hours) that will count toward the credit requirements of both the bachelor's and master's degree programs. The program is designed to be a five-year or five-year+ (less than six) program for currently enrolled Illinois Tech students majoring in chemistry or related fields. Upon graduation, graduates will be prepared to succeed in industry or in a chemistry doctoral program.
